Taman Ujung "Water Palace" Karangasem Park, Bali, Indonesia

Taman Ujung ‘water palace’, with its complete and official designation of Taman Sukasada Ujung, is located in the village of Seraya in Karangasem regency. It is the sister site of Tirta Gangga, also built by the late raja of Karangasem. The complex consists of various large pools and historic structures set against a backdrop of Mount Agung and the eastern shoreline.
The site suffered near devastation by showers of hot ash following the eruption of nearby Mount Agung in 1963, and also weathered an earthquake in 1979. Restoration efforts throughout the decades made way to its current splendour, and it continues to appeal to both locals and visitors.

Taman Ujung ‘water palace’ is a beautiful park with big fish pond surrounds the old Karangasem Empire heritage building which is used by the Karangasem’s King for day relaxation or meeting place in their era. It is one of Bali Heritage Sites are existing and appointed as a tourist destination in east part of Bali Island. It is located in Ujung Countryside about 5 Km from Amlapura town. This park is originally met one pool only which is very Ghostlike and very secret called by Di Dirah and this pool at the period of I Gusti Gede Putu King (1849-1893) governance with his brother of Gde Oka (1849-1890) that the around of this pool is functioned as place of exile for the man who alleged to run the black magic (leak). At the period of I Gusti Bagus Jelantik governance which start to lead the Karangasem Kingdom in the year 1909, this pool area is extended and developed by some pools and also luxury building Bale Gili with European style (modern style), later then it is given the name called Taman Sukasada/ Sukasada Park Ujung Karangasem, that is estimate made in the year of twentieth.

In the beginning, there was only a pond founded here where the pond was very haunted and secret where this pond is named by Di Dirah. The existence of this pond has been there when reign of I Gusti Gde Putu king (1849-1893) together with his brother I Gusti Gde Oka (1849-1890) and the surrounding area of this pond has been used a dumping place for those accused of running the witchcraft (black magic). In the reign of I Gusti Bagus Jelantik who becomes king in 1909, the areal of this pond is expanded and builds some ponds and a magnificent Bale Gili building with European style, hence this site is named by Taman Sukasada Ujung Karangasem. This park is located in the strategically location which is close to the beach and many springs were found.

When viewed from the history, almost all the heritages of Karangasem Kingdom both in Lombok and Bali Island those are consisted of pond and Gili Building where the Gili building is set on the pond like Mayura Park, Narmada Park located in west Lombok.
